What is ahead of us
There are many challenges. The communities of Uganda have been devastated spiritually, socially, emotionally and economically. HIV/AIDS has left the children without parents and also parents without children. They have also suffered through famine, drought, poor sanitation and poor water supplies, natural hazards etc. All these have made the area unworthy of living. Almost all the houses were burnt down by the rebels, every household in Northern Uganda has at least suffered the effects of the conflict in terms of abduction, death, poverty, rape, torture, displacement, HIV/AIDS, dissertation etc. The rebels cut off people,s mouths, noses, ears, arms. They also captured children from the age of 6 years and made them children soldiers while murdering and wounding civilians.
Because of insecurity in the homes, the government has been keeping them in camps for protection of their lives from rebels for over 15 years.Homes left abandoned, many children have not received education which has caused illiteracy and ignorance in the region thus poverty. Almost all the men were killed or captured as soldiers so families are unattended to. Girls as young as 10 years have become prostitutes because they are the bread winners at home and boys at 6 years have resorted to hard chores because they have no parents to cater for them. Women are helplessly watching their children suffer because they are also vulnerable.
Join Us
Think back a moment to your childhood, to the people who most altered the cause of your life and helped to make you who you are today. Now imagine a life without them, where would you be now? Who would you be? There are so many unfortunate, innocent children that have not had a chance to have a family and basic lifestyle. You may be the person to change the course of their lives. Many children are orphaned, abandoned, and left to die. There are many who need a place to call home because they stay on the streets where there is a lot of insecurity especially for the girl child.
Whether you are a lifetime advocate or new to our cause, we invite you to join us help the war victims who have lost their families, property, self esteem, dignity, long valued culture, hope, homes and most of all livelihood. Some of these people have never known peace and were born in the Internally Displaced People's camps.
More than 6-8 of the extended family are forced to stay in a one roomed hut , with lose of privacy and dignity because they have limited space to stay. By the time the 20 year war was over all their land and property had been taken by the powerful officials. The Acholi far fetched rich culture will never be the same.Suicide has risen to an alarming level because 85% suffer from severe trauma and depression. Suicide is highest among mothers who feel utter despair at the inability to provide for their children to save them from starvation to death ,or treatment for incurable diseases. 62% of the women speak of committing suicide which is an act of desperation. Now that the war is over it is time to put a smile on their faces, together we can change the lives of many. Every small thing can make a difference. It can be your time through volunteer work, material support, financial support, spiritual support, mutual support etc.

WED Teaching Kindergartens.
Are you creative? Love kids and want to teach them about the world? Ugandan most needed education is for kids below 7 years. This is the age where children most need their early development yet it has been totally neglected by parents and by the Government of Uganda which has set up primary and secondary schools but no kindergartens.
We have 2 community kindergartens that cater
exclusively to the education in Rubaga and Gulu for the needy children and
orphans. Volunteers are involved in arts and crafts, structured play,
music/singing, sports, health, and academics. The main focus is to provide
children with a loving, creative, interactive environment in which to flourish.
Volunteers choose which subjects and age groups to teach upon arrival. They
work independently to plan lessons using government curriculum and textbooks.
Please be aware that there will be few (if any) resources available at school.
No teaching qualifications are required although volunteers should be organized
and creative.

SPONSOR A CHILD
Give to those who need most.Putting the war aside, Northern Uganda has suffered the Scourge of this horrific disease HIV/AIDS which has left young children without parents and young mothers with no husbands.Estimated deaths each year is 64,000.These young children need support through school fees, scholastic materials, food security, clothing, shelter and so many more because their mothers too are vulnerable and thus cannot provide a basic lifestyle. SKILLS DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS
These are projects that have been introduced to help the vulnerable and young women make a better income and thus a better lifestyle. They cannot be employed in government offices because they are not educated. But this is not their fault, it is because they spent almost all their lives in Internally Displaced Camps. These skills include bakery, liquid soap making, briquette making, hair dressing, art and crafts, horticultural farming, music dance and drama etc.Any help rendered to us will be appreciated.

HIV ADVOCACY
People living in poverty are particularly those living with HIV/AIDS .This is because they are sickly to work and their children too are weak to go to school. Thus illiteracy and under development. WED is working on addressing HIV/AIDS as a cause to poverty through programs that ensure educational opportunities for the orphaned, protect rights of vulnerable survivors, raise awareness in communities especially schools etc.

HYGIENE AND SANITATION PROGRAMS
As the former Internally Displaced Persons move back to their communities, water ,sanitation and hygiene remain a key challenge. Most areas have very dirty water for drinking and cooking and it is fetched from very long distances..Animals drink directly from it causing respiratory infections, cholera, bilhazia, diarrhea etc. There is need for improved hygiene, water and sanitation.
Everyone is welcome to work hand in hand with us in constructing boreholes ,and under ground water tanks that are fed with natural rain water. You can support us through volunteering, financially and materially.

HIV/ AIDS ADVOCACY
Stigma amongst children and women living with HIV/AIDS is so strong,
most parents and guardians do not have enough information on how to take
care and love the infected ones. In most cases they are left to themselves. We help both children and parents / guardians through several
community sensitization programs, counseling and guidance, organizing workshops, awareness and sensitization, we also pay visits to ensure that guardians and parents show love and to care their innocent children. We even monitor their adherence to medication, because many give up on taking medication and also some are on a line of medicine that is not effective to their bodies.
They are warned to keep against contracting the disease. These are the Major principled Ds emphasized by WED in communities and schools ; -
1- Detect- the virus is prevalent in Uganda
2- Determine- Everyone needs to go for HIV/AIDS test.
3- Disclose- that u have the virus and be helped.
4- Diffuse- fight its prevalence.
5- Demystify- Let the public know that you are positive and that its just a disease not a disgrace.
6- Deplore- Hate it and persecute it.
7- Detain- Keep it to yourself and don't spread it.
FUTURE PLANS
HOMES.
-Construction of model homes for the orphaned girl child.
Because most of the children are totally orphaned and are staying with neighbors and guardians or on the streets, we need homes for them.We want these children to have a sense of family life. We are working hand in hand with the local leaders who are identifying responsible and model parents who have a small family, so we are placing orphans in their care.
-In the future we are planning on building good model homes for these families in one homestead .
- These family heads will be given projects to sustain the families. These homes will be monitored by the Child Care Director of WED to see that whether the children are really catered for and in good health.
SCHOOLS.
WED needs Kindergartens , Primary schools, and Vocational institutes for the children in our care. Most of the children in the community below 7 years do not go to school because the long distances of over 5km from home to school. Instead their parents keep them at home doing house hold chores and farming. Some do not go to school because their guardians do not have money to take them to school.
Together we can help educate the most needy.
PROJECTS
TAILORING
About 600 women every 6 months will learn tailoring and how to run a small tailoring business from their homes. Women enter the 6-month course not knowing how to thread a needle but after 6 months they will be able to make businesses.HOW WILL TAILORING SOLVE THE PROBLEM?
During the 6-month tailoring course, women will learn to compute their budget for
clothes and savings from making their own clothes. They will learn how to make a variety
of clothes with patterns. It will solve problems like poverty, they will leave with a livelihood, peace, hope, dignity, high self esteem etc.
POTENTIAL LONG TERM IMPACT
Women will learn to save money they would have spent to buy a sewing machine to start a small tailoring business. Course graduates sew their families' clothes, start a home-based business, and/or become sewing teachers.
NECESSITIES ;
WED organization is focusing on teaching baking lessons to over 600 women every 6 months for 5 years. This will solve the unemployment problem. All the products baked in the practical classes shall be sold to the communities around. They will need bicycles to transport the bread door to door in homes and also to big shops in the trading centres. The money saved shall be used to buy mini ovens to graduates for a start up business.
NECESSITIES; -Ovens, mixers, baking trays, containers, decorating and icing kits, etc.
MUSIC, DANCE AND DRAMA.
We are aiming at adding livelihood in the lives of the people we are working with in developing their talents through movie making, documentaries, commercial traditional dance groups, commercial music etc. This will provide employment to young mothers and so many youths.
NECESSITIES;
Traditional instruments, brass band, base guitars, solo guitars, trumpets, key boards etc.
ART AND CRAFT
WED is already doing art and craft products especially, necklaces, shoes, bags, earrings, baskets, portraits, art clothes, hangings etc. This has really changed the way people believe in themselves .People's lives have not been the same because instead of being idol, they team up together as a family. We have seen the faces excited after learning.
With time, we want to have our machines that make craft shoes and bags and also we are looking out for market for our finished products.
GOD BLESS YOU.
